Did you know that Imperial Sugar Company, a major sugar producer, is based in Sugar Land, Texas? I can remember growing up and passing the Sugar Factory on HWY 90A in Sugar Land, or what is now called Historic Sugar Land. The City is named for the company and the company's crown logo can be seen in the city's seal. Although they still have factories in 3 other states, the factory in Sugar Land was closed in 2003, after filing for bankruptcy in 2001. The company headquarters is still located in Sugar Land. They are in the process of tearing down the Sugar Factory in Sugar Land, and it will certainly be missed by a lot of people who grew up in this area.
